The homes
Southfield grew quickly after the Second World War. Expect brick ranches and colonials from the 1950s and 1960s, larger homes in some northern neighborhoods, and a wide choice of condos and apartments. Lathrup Village is almost entirely single-family homes on tree-lined streets, many of them mid-century brick.
Getting around
Few places in Metro Detroit have better highway access. The Lodge Freeway (M-10), I-696, the Southfield Freeway (M-39) and Telegraph Road all run through or beside Southfield, so downtown Detroit, Troy, Farmington Hills and Royal Oak are each a short drive.
Work and parks
